Accessibility
As a full-time semi-ambulatory wheelchair user and disabled Veteran (who still rides her motorcycle), accessibility is very important to me. I'm a Certified ADA Coordinator (ADACC) with 25 years of managing my own disabilities, chronic pain, and illness.
I believe everyone should be able to access the information, resources, and experiences available on this website.
Accessibility is an ongoing part of how I build and maintain AmethystMahoney.com. I work to make content usable with screen readers and other assistive technology, provide alternative text or accessible text versions for meaningful images and graphics, use clear headings and navigation, and address accessibility barriers as I find them.
Accessibility Is an Ongoing Process
This website contains a lot of content created over many years, and some older material may not yet meet the accessibility standards I use today. I am actively reviewing and updating content as I work throughout the site.
I also use third-party platforms and tools, including Kajabi, which means there may occasionally be accessibility issues outside of my direct control. When I find something I can improve or provide an accessible alternative for, I do my best to do so.
How We Handle Accessibility
For the Tarot cards found on this site, we use alt text behind all images where possible. The information generally includes the name of the card and what deck it is from.
We use rich text below the image to describe cards in the body of blog posts, on pages, and where available. This means that both people who use screen readers as well as those who don't get the benefit of the full description.
For example, on an image of The Tower Tarot Card Meaning on our blog, the alt text on the image of the card says, "This is the Tower card from the Unconquered Heart Tarot," and this is what the screen reader will say.
The description below that reads: The Tower from The Unconquered Heart Tarot depicts two women among the rubble of a partially collapsed stone tower. One woman kneels on the ground examining a broken stone, while the other stands farther ahead holding a staff and looking toward the horizon. Both wear torn purple and white clothing. Broken stones, books, fabric, a fallen staff, and a jeweled crown are scattered across the ground. The ruined tower rises behind them, with mountains, birds, and a glowing sunset in the distance.
For images where we cannot add the information underneath the image as text, we put the most important and identifying information first. This way you can choose to listen to the entire description, or hit next or the down button without listening to everything.
We are currently adding transcripts to videos inside our courses. All new videos include closed captions. These can be toggled off by people who do not wish to read them.
Older videos are being reprocessed with captions or re-recorded. This will take some time to finish.
For new courses, workshops, and trainings, transcripts are provided below videos, and relevant worksheets have been transcribed into digital, fillable documents for people who use screen readers as well as for clients who wish to work digitally.
This website contains a lot of content created over many years, and some older material may not yet include the accessibility features I use today. For older courses, material will be systematically culled, edited, and reproduced for accessibility in order to make things seamless for every student.
Found an Accessibility Problem?
If you encounter something that is difficult or impossible to access, please let me know.
Tell me what page or resource you were trying to use and what problem you encountered. I'll do my best to investigate the issue and, whenever possible, provide the information or resource in an accessible format.
